About this exhibit
This small exhibition tells the story of a few of the British Home Children who were placed in the Tillsonburg area. There are so many children, that it is a challenge to put together a complete list of all who were placed near here. Many of the stories we feature here come from the publication Ups and Downs. Ups and Downs was the periodical published by Dr. Barnardo’s homes in Toronto and was circulated amongst the BHC in Canada. Published between 1895 and 1949, Ups and Downs contained stories, letters, pictures and information about BHC. Some of the editions have been scanned and are available online.
We acknowledge that there are many BHC who are not included in this exhibition. Annandale National Historic Site and the Oxford County Archives want to tell more of the stories of British Home Children who came to Tillsonburg and across the county and invites families to share their stories with us. Please fill out our British Home Children Stories form to share more stories and information about local Home Children.
